The faces behind BizCom: Nicole Traycoff

Why did you choose PR?

I love that question because I’ve often been asked why I chose this particular vocation. A typical follow-up question is “what exactly does a PR professional do?” I’ve had a passion for reading and writing since I was a little girl. I won several young poet awards in elementary school, and I would behave like a kid in a candy store when my mother would take me to the public library. In the summertime, I would sign out more than 10 library books and devour the content in one week. Opening the book’s cover was a wormhole to a beautiful adventure unraveling into other times and places in our gigantic universe. My thirst for reading also honed my strong writing skills throughout my career. I’ve literally written about anything and everything! I derive pleasure in crafting impactful content that really resonates with the reader. During my journalism education at the University of Georgia, I sharpened my reporter teeth as an entertainment staff writer for The Red & Black newspaper.

When someone asks me “what I do” as a PR professional, I harken back to these two life-long personal interests. I explain that this industry is about more than cultivating and maintaining personal business relationships for companies and brands. You must possess a never-ending thirst for knowledge and the willingness to read anything you discover about your clients and their brands. I also believe in order to be highly successful in the PR industry, you must be a very strong writer. PR is about more than drafting a press release. You’re also not a professional writer just by using digital writing-assistance tools.

Best part of working at BizCom?

I’ve worked for some amazing integrated marketing agencies, corporations and nonprofit organizations throughout my career. When I decided to leave my independent consulting work and return to a creative team environment, I was very careful about who I wanted to interview with for mutual business interests. BizCom really stood out among other companies during my intensive search process because of its accomplished leadership team. The agency’s founders are involved in the day-to-day operations and I know that I can continually learn from their professional counsel. BizCom’s culture is solidly built on a positive environment of respect and belief in their employees’ individual skillsets and capabilities. I’m empowered to succeed when my senior leaders recognize the potential of my unique talents and abilities. It was a no-brainer to accept BizCom’s job offer!

If you could see any artist in concert, who would it be?

Anyone close to me knows this answer without skipping a beat. One hint. In 1995, this band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and wrote the world-famous song “Black Dog.” It’s no coincidence that my shelter dog’s name is Zeppelin and that he's a black Great Dane mix. Zeppelin is known to howl along to the music when Jimmy Page launches into his violin bow solo on the Gibson Les Paul guitar.

3 things others wouldn’t know about you…

1) I love learning new languages.

2) I’ve been to countless live music events and I’ve saved almost all of my tickets. I miss the days when the concert venues gave out the old-school paper ticket stubs. I have several precious band autographs and photos in the vault.

3) I’m a tech geek and I enjoy mastering emerging digital-communications platforms. I’m totally fascinated by UX.
